During Sunday night’s ceremony, attendees at the Bet Awards 2022 didn’t shy away from criticizing the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade ruling. In fact, several of the attendees addressed the decision.

The host of the program, Taraji P. Henson, as well as the host of the ceremony, Janelle Monae, and the recipient of the award for Best R&B/Pop Artist, Jazmine Sullivan, all voiced their disagreement with the decision inside the first 17 minutes of the show.

Things got underway with Lizzo playing her hit track “About Damn Time,” and as you probably guessed, she brought her flute with her.

After her performance, the incredibly gifted Taraji P. Henson, who had previously hosted the awards presentation and was doing so once again this year, made her grand entry.

When Jack Harlow and Brandy finally make up on stage, it’s a sight to behold. Jack Harlow stunned the crowd by bringing out Brandy to sing a remix of his viral hit, First Class, after he had brought out Lil Wayne to perform “Poison” from his new album.

Take a look at the following to relive some of the most memorable parts of culture’s most important night.

It’s safe to assume that things are going swimmingly between the two of them. Brandy’s performance was in direct retaliation to the viral interview that Harlow gave on Hot 97 in which he admitted that he was unaware that Ray J and Brandy were brothers.

Bet Hip Hop Awards 2022: Performers Who Won

Best Female Hip Hop Artist: Megan Thee Stallion

Because New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area are such rich regions for talent and activity, we always focus on the competition between the East Coast and the West Coast in the hip hop genre.

However, it is completely irresponsible to ignore the “Third Coast” culture that exists in Houston, Texas, as this is the city in which Megan Thee Stallion was raised and where she began her career in rap and hip hop.

On February 15, 1995, she was born in a community in Houston known as South Park. Her full name at birth was Megan Jovon Ruth Pete. The age of Megan Thee Stallion has been revealed, for all of you who have been curious about her age now. She is young, right? But, already successful.

The young Megan was incredibly musical from a very young age, and according to interviews and recollections from family members, she began reciting raps from the age of 7.

A significant factor in her development was the presence of other rappers in her family, particularly her mother.

The young lady didn’t take long to start crafting her own lyrics and quickly became a terror to other MCs in the neighborhood when they met for rap battles, and now she even won the Bet awards 2022!

Best Male Hip Hop Artist: Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is not like any other rapper on the planet. In 2018, he made history by becoming the first artist in history to receive a Pulitzer Prize who was not associated with jazz or classical music.

In addition to this, he holds the number one spot in numerous nations, where he performs to sold-out crowds in stadiums.

In addition to this, Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world for the year 2016, placing him among the likes of Bill Gates and Barack Obama.

Music critics and industry insiders are unanimous in their assessment that Lamar possesses one of the voices of his time. They believe that he is one of the most influential voices of his generation.

Even though he did not perform particularly well at the Grammy Awards 2019, which were presented on February 10, he is still considered by many to be the best rapper of all time. However, he only won one of the eight nominations he had, and now he won the Bet Awards 2022 for best male hip hop artist!

Other BET Awards 2022 Performers

Best Male R&B/Pop Artist: The Weeknd

An award well-deserved for The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, was born in the Canadian province of Ontario (Canada). In the eighties, his parents made the journey from Ethiopia to the United States.

After going through a challenging childhood that was highlighted by drug usage, he started his musical career in 2010 under the name The Weeknd. His music is a combination of R&B, electronica, indie music, and dark sounds.

The specialized press took notice of the self-taught musician when his initial records, which were uploaded to YouTube and included the tune “The Morning,” were made available to the public.

He continued to release music, and in 2012, he took his mixtapes on the road to play at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival as well as Primavera Sound in Barcelona.

In the same year, he got a contract with Republic Records and released the album Trilogy, which was a compilation of his previously self-released mixtapes.

The Weeknd was thrust into the limelight of the music industry as a result of the success of the collection, which topped the charts on the US Billboard.

Best Female R&B/Pop Artist: Jazmine Sullivan

Because Jazmine Sullivan has always had an interest in pursuing her passion for music, she didn’t spend any time beginning to train as a singer when she was very young and joining the chorus at her local church.

She was able to begin learning how to manipulate her voice in a variety of various ways there, which led her to the realization that she has a great deal of aptitude in the field of music.

Because of her extraordinary talent, Jazmine Sullivan was quickly promoted to the position of lead soloist in the choir and started getting offers to launch a professional music career from a number of record labels.

In spite of the several opportunities that were presented to her, her parents made the decision to enter her in the competition for the reality show Showtime at the Apollo.

During the course of the competition, the up-and-coming vocalists had the chance to perform alongside some of the most well-known names in the music industry.

It was there that Jazmine Sullivan started to gain recognition, and it was there that she began to develop a deeper appreciation for soul and R&B music after performing with other musicians like Stevie Wonder.

Best Collaboration: Wizkid feat. Justin Bieber & Tems – “Essence”

The entire world was on fire after Justin Bieber made the announcement on the remix version of “Essence,” which featured singers WizKid and Tems.

The Nigerian star claimed that “something extraordinary” was produced as a result of their partnership with Justin Bieber through the use of this remix. The track is an afrobeat, and it has all the makings to become a success during a number of summers.

It is important to point out that “Essence” made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 in July at position #82. The song, which features Tems and was included on Wiz’s album “Made in Lakes,” was published in October of 2020.

They say this is the first time a song can hold its own against a similarly promoted song by a Western singer in the pop genre. For the first time, a pop song actually seems to be competing with another one that has been given the same amount of promotion.

They also hope that this will be the album’s long-lasting influence – that it will open doors for additional people whose styles and textures are distinct from one another.

Best New Performer: Latto

The recipient of both the Youth Hip Hop Music Award and the award for excellence in R&B. She is a performer, entrepreneur, and promoter in addition to being a writer.

Alyssa Michelle Stephens is her birth name, however she has also been known as Latto and Mulatto in the past. Her birth name is Alyssa.

She joined the cast of the reality show The Rap Game on Lifetime and went on to win the competition for the very first time.

She began her career in the music industry when she was just 10 years old. Prior to that, she was a car racer.

She has appeared as a character in the children’s book Oops I Danced My Diaper Off, as well as produced various compilations of her music, and she has also worked in radio.

After the controversy that ensued when it was discovered that the nickname “Mulatto” was being used to refer to a colorist, it was revealed in January 2021 that Latto would be changing her stage name from “Mulatto.”

For the month of February 2021, Latto has been named MTV’s Global Push Artist of the Month.

By releasing ” Bitch from da Souf ” (2019) and ” Muwop ” (2020), Latto became the first rapper from Atlanta to have a solo album certified gold or platinum (March 2021).

Latto announced in multiple interviews in May 2021 that she has finally decided on a new performing pseudonym.

This decision came after Latto came under criticism due to the racially charged nature of the name she performed under.

It was reported on May 18 that Mulatto’s name had been shortened to “Latto” on streaming services. Her guest performance on Toosii’s album Thank You for Believing was the first instance of her new moniker, Latto. On May 18, Mulatto was rebranded as Latto across all streaming services.
